In my experience, commodities such as oil, gas, and metals attract a lot of traders because of the volatility and trending environment that they bring, generating interest among traders. I have noticed that prices on commodities move with purpose, sometimes due to supply shocks (like COVID-19 and the Middle East war) and sometimes through natural market cycles.

Every review and score on our site comes from independent, hands-on testing — no broker can pay to change them. Brokers pay to be listed on our site; this may affect which brokers we feature and where — never our reviews or scores. How we make money
  • Rankings are not for sale — the order comes from our test scores; no broker can pay for a higher spot.
  • The authority on broker reviews since 2011 — traders have relied on our independent broker testing for over a decade.
  • 80+ brokers tested every year — we test the whole market, so we know the benchmark — and which brokers actually beat it.
  • Every broker takes the same test — one published scoring system: 9 weighted categories, 250+ variables, measured hands-on by our analysts.
  • Every fact is checked twice — a dedicated editor re-verifies each data point, from licenses to spreads, before publication.

I noticed that trends develop and stay for weeks or months unless the fundamental reason behind them changes. Most people trade commodities because trending markets offer more favorable trading conditions and improve their odds. Investing in commodities can also serve as a hedge against inflation and geopolitical risk.

If you are struggling to choose a commodity trading broker, our comprehensive guide presents a list of the top brokers, providing clear and concise explanations of essential aspects that traders normally look for before deciding. Recognizing that traders have unique requirements, we have categorized brokers based on their standout features.

I think Capital.com is the ultimate choice to trade commodities with automated systems, as it provides a vast selection of commodity-related 90+ CFD contracts, futures, and knock-out options. Automated trading is available via Capital.com’s MetaTrader 4 platform, which features Expert Advisors (EAs) trading and a sophisticated strategy testing tool. This service enables Direct Market Access (DMA) trading, allowing algorithmic traders to obtain raw spreads directly from an exchange’s order books.

Speaking of costs, Capital.com provides affordable prices across major commodities. Through my live testing, I found that the broker offers an average crude oil spread of 0.03 pips and a 30-pip spread on gold. These values are aligned with the industry average.

Why We Picked It

Founded in 2002 in Poland, XTB is a globally regulated broker that is listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange (WSE:XTB) and offers over 2,300 CFD instruments, including a variety of commodity products. All these can be traded on XTB’s xStation platform and its mobile version.

Commodity Trading Features:

  • Commodity-based assets for trading: 27
  • Metals: Aluminium, Silver, Gold, Palladium, Platinum, Copper, Nickel, Zinc
  • Energies: WTI Crude Oil, Brent Crude Oil, Low Sulphur Gas Oil, Natural Gas, Carbon Emissions

  • CFDs on Commodity Futures: Yes
  • Maximum leverage for commodities trading: 1:500 (FSC Belize), 1:100 (KNF), 1:20 (CySEC, FCA, BaFin, CNMV)

The broker’s proprietary xStation 5 platform, which is well-designed and offers a robust range of built-in tools and features such as performance statistics, watchlists, and price alerts, offers the full range of markets. Its mobile app version retains the same degree of versatility.

The XTB app allows commodity traders to always stay on top of the latest market developments and manage their account performance. It also features 30+ technical indicators, drawing tools, and other chart configurations. The app also supports all basic order types: market, limit, and stop.

I tested XTB’s Standard account, which features commission-free trading and floating spreads from 0.8 pips. In February 2026, I recorded extremely high spreads on XAUSUD and crude oil – $1.23 and $0.07, respectively. However, XTB had warned of heightened market volatility at this time.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • Rare commodities like Carbon Emmissions and Lean Hogs
  • Powerful charts and intuitive desing on the web platform and mobile app
  • Video market breakdowns
  • 17 Exchange Traded Commodities
Cons
  • High fees on gold and oil

Why We Picked It

Founded in 2008, I think Plus500 is a powerhouse in the world of CFD trading and has left a mark with its drive toward innovation. It offers services in over 50 countries worldwide and is regulated by multiple top-tier regulators, including FCA, CySEC, and ASIC. One thing I found really unique is that it is a publicly traded company listed on the London Stock Exchange.

Commodity Trading Features:

  • Commodity-based assets for trading: 28
  • Metals: Silver, Gold, Palladium, Platinum, Copper
  • Energies: WTI Crude Oil, Brent Crude Oil, Heating Oil, Low Sulphur Gas Oil, Natural Gas, Gasoline
  • Softs: Sugar, Coffee, Corn, Wheat, Lean Hogs, Live Cattle, Soybeans, Cocoa, Feeder Cattle, Cotton.
  • CFDs on Commodity Futures: Yes
  • Maximum leverage for commodities trading: 1:150 (Global entity), 1:20 (ASIC), 1:20 (CySEC), 1:20 (FCA), and 1:150.

While testing, it was pretty evident that Plus500 has invested heavily in its proprietary WebTrader platform, which has taken the ease of use to a new level. For many, this is a significant improvement on the dated look and feel of the widely used MetaTrader platform. Beginners and casual traders can appreciate its intuitive yet feature-rich interface.

One thing I believe is a great advantage for traders is high-quality research tools built into the Plus500 platform. It’s called +Insights, and it provides unique data like the most traded instruments and the most profit-making positions among Plus500 clients. During my tests, the spread was 41 pips in gold and 4 pips in WTI oil.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • Innovative and intuitive Plus500 platform.
  • Gold futures and options available.
  • Insightful research materials.
  • Fast-responding 24/7 chat support.
Cons
  • No phone support.

If you are looking for flexibility, FxPro should be your go-to choice. It is a forex and CFD broker established in 2002 and licensed by the UK FCA, CySEC, FSCA, and SCB. Over 2,100 instruments, including a wide range of commodity markets, are available. Multiple account options and trading platforms cater to the needs of beginners to professionals.

Commodity Trading Features:

  • Commodity-based assets for trading: 40
  • Metals: Aluminium, Copper, Lead, Palladium, Platinum, Zinc
  • Gold Pairs: Gold/USD, Gold/EUR, Gold grams
  • Silver Pairs: Silver/USD, Silver/EUR
  • Energies: WTI Crude Oil, Brent Crude Oil, Natural Gas
  • Softs: Cocoa, Coffee, Corn, Cotton, Soybean, Sugar, Wheat
  • CFDs on Commodity Futures: Yes
  • Maximum leverage for commodities trading: 1:20 (FCA, CySEC, FSCA), 1:200 (SCB)

The biggest advantage of FxPro is its strong selection of commodities for trading, especially a notable range of metals beyond gold and silver. The broker also provides less commonly offered metals like lead and zinc, which I think sets FxPro apart from other competitors. Traders can also access a variety of soft commodities, like cocoa, soybeans, and corn

One thing I believe that really goes in traders’ favor is the in-house research: the FxPro team regularly publishes market insights on key commodities such as gold, silver, and WTI crude oil, covering both fundamental and technical analysis. Clients can also access Trading Central research through the portal for even deeper insights into commodity trends. During my fee test, a gold spread of 32 cents was aligned with the benchmark, but the WTI oil price of $0.05 exceeded it.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • Wide selection of commodities.
  • Feature-rich FxPro web platform amd mobile app
  • Regular market research on commodities
  • Trading Central signals for gold and oil
Cons
  • $10 monthly inactivity fee after 6 months of no activity

You can also use MT4 and MT5 platforms with EAs if you are into algo trading. The lineup of trading assets is also high-class: Swissquote offers over 4 million trading and investing products, including 450 CFDs and 30 commodities. I can say that this is one of the largest offerings I’ve seen while reviewing brokers for FXEmpire.

The only drawback of the broker is its pricing – yes, Swissquote is not the cheapest one. In my live tests, I recorded high spreads on the most popular instruments. Plus, their minimum deposit requirement starts at $1000, proving that Swissquote suits serious traders with substantial capital.

Pros and Cons

Pros
