In China, Urban Surveyed Unemployment Rate is calculated by a sample survey, which refers to the ratio of urban unemployed population to the sum of the employed population and the unemployed population.

China’s surveyed unemployment rate stood at 5.0% in June 2025, unchanged from the previous month and in line with market expectations. The reading remained at its lowest level since November last year. The jobless rate among the locally registered labor force was 5.1%, while that for the non-locally registered labor force stood at 4.8%. Within the latter, individuals with non-local agricultural household registration also recorded a 4.8% unemployment rate. Across 31 major cities, the urban surveyed unemployment rate was likewise 5.0%. Meanwhile, the average weekly working hours for enterprise employees nationwide rose to 48.5 hours. As of end-Q2, the migrant rural labor force totaled 191.39 million, up 0.7% from a year earlier. For the first half of the year, the national urban surveyed unemployment rate averaged 5.2%.
